Adult programs will commence in October with the opening of the Museum's inaugural exhibitions. Opening weekend activities are as follows:
October 20
The Celebration: In 1928, Spanish King Alfonso XIII founded a chain of luxury hotels to promote Spanish tourism. Known as Paradores, these one-of-a-kind state-run hotels are located in mostly historic buildings including former castles, fortresses, convents, monasteries and palaces. Each Parador has its own restaurant, famous for regional and traditional cuisines as well as excellent wine.
The City of Coral Gables and the Biltmore Hotel are honored to be chosen as the location for a rare cyclo gastronómico that will feature the famous chefs of the Paradores. The once-in-a-lifetime event will highlight Spain’s special connection to the City Beautiful and kick-off the inaugural exhibits and gatherings at the new Coral Gables Museum. We are pleased to announce that Ambassador Cristina Barrios, Consul General of Spain and Ambassador James Cason, Mayor of Coral Gables have agreed to be honorary co-chairs of this dinner.
October 21
The Appreciation:
Without the City of Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, Foundations and dedicated Founders and Sponsors, the Coral Gables Museum would not exist. On October 21, those who have helped create the dream will be invited to a special cocktail reception and preview of the inaugural exhibits prior to public opening. This invitation only event will honor those who helped make the dream come true.
October 22-23
The Inauguration: On Saturday, October 22, members of the Coral Gables Museum will be invited to a special Spanish- themed brunch at the Museum at Ten A.M. The general public will be welcomed to the opening of the exhibits at One P.M. The opening weekend continues on Sunday, October 23 when the Museum begins normal operating hours.
