City Trekker Summer Camp 2013
at the Coral Gables Museum
June 10 – August 16, 9am – 5pm
Weekly trips to Venetian Pool!

City Trekker Summer Camp at the Coral Gables Museum offers 10 weeks of fun, educational activities for children ages 5-12, from June 10th through August 16th, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. City Trekker Summer Camp explores the City of Coral Gables through a variety of disciplines and takes advantage of all the cultural destinations and activities that The City Beautiful and the Museum have to offer.

Through exhibits, special presentations, art activities and fieldtrips campers will learn about art, architecture, design, history and more!

The Coral Gables Museum provides a safe place to create, play and learn. Family and friends are invited to join us every Friday at 4pm for Friday Finales, special presentations featuring creative projects and accomplishments from the campers’ week-long adventures.

Campers will be grouped according to age. Hats, water bottles, field trip fees, and Friday pizza lunch are included in the registration fee.

Camp will take place Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available for an additional fee. Early Bird and Sibling discounts available.

Session Themes and Dates:

Nature Rangers Session 1: June 10 – 21
Become a nature ranger, and protect our environment! Visit nature preserves and discover what it takes to be a Park Ranger. Meet the animals and plants that inhabit these preserves, and learn what you can do to protect them and their endangered habitats. Design and create a group mural of the natural habitats you explored!

Design and Play Session 2: June 24 – July 5 (No Camp July 4th)
Inspired by our Golf in the Gables exhibit, you’ll play putt-putt in the gallery, design and build a miniature golf course and visit local golf courses. Discover other sports venues like the Miami Marine Stadium and learn what the local community is doing to preserve this architectural masterpiece. Take a behind the scenes tour of the new Marlins Park. Learn about its cool retractable roof, and design a ball park for you own baseball league!

Home, Sweet Home! Session 3: July 8 – July 19
Discover the architectural styles of our County's most treasured homes. Visit local homes listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and learn about the families who built them and called them "home, sweet home"! Explore local neighborhoods and their architectural styles from Art Deco and MiMo to Mediterranean Revival and more! Learn how and why we must preserve and protect our homes. Use these inspirations and your imagination to design your own dream home!

What’s Cookin’? Session 4: July 22 – August 2
Explore the culinary arts in The City Beautiful! Interview local restaurant owners, bakers and chefs for our own film production, “What’s Cookin’ Coral Gables”! Visit a culinary art school, and discover what it takes to become a world renowned chef. Create your own recipes to share with family and friends. Learn how to make smoothies, salads and other healthy snacks…and maybe a sweet little treat here and there.

Sounds of the City Session 5: August 5 - 16
Explore musical instruments, genres and sounds of our city! Visit Casa Bacardi's Music Pavilion, enjoy special musical performances, and create your own unique instruments. Explore the urban sounds and beats of our city - "HONK," "vrooom," "ding, dong" -, and record a city soundscape. Develop a story using sounds for friends and family to enjoy.
