The
Coral Gables Museum’s facility consists
of the original Police and Fire Station
with additions and a courtyard off
of the main lobby, a new 3000 square
foot gallery, and a beautiful 5000
square foot public plaza on the northwest
corner of the complex. Both buildings
will be LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design) certified,
restored and constructed utilizing
best environmental practices and
materials. Additions to the existing
building and new construction are
sympathetic to the original design
which is a blending of Depression
Moderne and Mediterranean Revival
architectural styles. The signature
sculptures on the west side of the
Old Police and Fire Station will
remain as will all original design
detail. Coral stone will be installed
on the façade of the new gallery
to match the historic structure.
The interior of the Old Police and
Fire Station will be rehabilitated
to expose the original coral stone
walls.
