The site of the future Museum at 285 Aragon Avenue was the venue for the May 3rd “Demolition, Denim and Diamonds” event, a celebration of the commencement of construction on the Museum project. Event Chair Pupi Perez-Abreu assembled the following members of the “Demolition Team” to assist with this event: Mari Tere Cabarrocas-Trelles, Elisa Carrera-Justiz, Chanena Elgarresta, Gilda Espin, Rita Fidalgo, Jorge Hernandez, Victoria Lopez-Castro, Vivian Mas, Coco Palenque Torre, Irene Pariserband, Sharon Polo, Maria Elena Salinas and Maite Saizarbitoria Bocanegra.
The event was sponsored by Neiman Marcus, Preston Scott Design with Flowers, Fernandez Brena Interior Design, C & D Curtains and Design, Inc., Creative Carpet Concepts, Café Pilon and Superior Landscaping and Lawn Services. With dinner provided by Caffé Abbracci, Caramelo, Ruth’s Chris and the Café at Books and Books, open bars provided by Bacardi, Cefalo’s in the Grove and Café Pilon, and music by the band Ariel, everyone enjoyed a great evening for a great cause. Master of ceremonies and Board Chairman George Kakouris announced a major contribution by Robert and Marian Fewell for the construction of a new gallery. In honor of the project, Mayor Don Slesnick was joined by Commissioner Bill Kerdyk, Commissioner Chip Withers, Mr. Kakouris and Mr. Fewell in a celebratory breaking of a champagne bottle against the coral stone building.
