Dear Coral Gables Museum members, friends and supporters,
It is very exciting to be on the home stretch to the opening our brand new museum.
As you know, the Museum’s philosophy is “to be about all things Coral Gables” and this includes our community’s long history of integrating nature and an ecological sensibility into the built environment.
Did you know that many of the original Gables homes were built with solar water heating systems and that early marketing suggested that home buyers buy two adjacent lots, one for growing their own fruits and vegetables?
Very 21st century, sustainable community thinking for the 1920s.
Our building will achieve a high Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification because we have concentrated on renovating rather than replacing, buying materials as close to home as possible and installing fixtures that save water and energy.
We will utilize best practices to ensure that we "practice what we preach". We will recycle everything and will use recycled paper products and green cleaning supplies. We believe that we should apply our sustainable community practices to outfitting our building by asking our friends if they have any of the items we need that can be “re-cycled” for use in the Museum. We have a long and detailed list of the items we need and would be most grateful for the contribution of any “pre-owned” items that are in good working order and fit our needs.
I hope you would take a look at this PDF list and see if there is anything there you may have that you could part with. The Museum, as a not for profit 501c3, will provide you with a receipt that you can use for your tax return.
Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. We may hear it all the time, but it's a motto to live by and can be a big help to your Coral Gables Museum.
