A Photography Contest & Exhibit Presented By The Coral Gables Museum
The Coral Gables Museum invites YOU to submit your photograph for a chance to exhibit at the Museum and win cash and prizes, including a grand prize of a Leica camera! This is a skill-based photography contest open to all ages. This contest will culminate in an exhibit at the Coral Gables Museum in summer 2013.
The objectives of this contest are to invite the public to explore and examine the City of Coral Gables through a photographic lens, as well as to recognize local talent. Awards will be determined by a professional jury and a public vote.
Photography Contest Categories
Nature/Landscape
Photographs must showcase outdoor beauty in Coral Gables. The primary subject of the image must be of natural elements. Coral Gables is home to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, Matheson Hammock Park, The Coral Gables Waterway and tree-lined boulevards. Take your pic!
Events
Photographs must capture events happening in Coral Gables such as Carnaval on the Mile (3/2/13), Coral Gables Farmers Market (every Saturday though 3/16/13), John Martin's famous St. Patrick's Day Block Party (3/15/13) or any lectures, concerts or special events at The Coral Gables Museum! Please check our Museum website and the City website for more listings.
Architecture
Photographs must capture architecture in Coral Gables. Entrants may focus on any architectural style from Mediterranean Revival to Modern. Please specify the location in the title or description.
Faces of Coral Gables
Photographs must showcase posed or candid portraits of a person or people who represent Coral Gables, be they neighbors, families, business owners, sports teams, community leaders or politicians. Last year's entries included shoppers on Miracle Mile and quinceañeras at the Country Club Prado Entrance.
Special Category Golf in the Gables
Photographs of anything having to do with golf, one of Coral Gables' most popular sports. This special category celebrates our upcoming Mini Golf exhibit. Several local architecture and design firms are creating putt-putt holes that will be installed in the Fewell Gallery so that visitors can actually play golf in the Museum this summer!

All entrants invited to participate in the summer exhibition will receive a Museum Family Membership (valid for 1 year). In addition, there will be 14 category winners that will receive prize packages. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:

TERM
The 2013 Coral Gables Museum Photo Contest begins March 1 2013. Entries must be submitted by June 3, 2013. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that his or her entry complies with all requirements set out in the Official Rules. This is a skill based contest.
WHO MAY ENTER
The Coral Gables Museum Photo Contest welcomes students, amateur and
professional photographers. Entrants must identify themselves as belonging
to one of three age categories:
Child (age 12 and under)
Teen
(age 13-17)
Adult (age 18+)
WHAT TO ENTER
All entries MUST be photographs taken within the City of Coral Gables
within two (2) years before the date of entry and may not previously
have been exhibited or won an award within the City of Coral Gables
in the past 2 years.
The subject of each photo entry must fit into
one of the following categories:
Landscape/Nature
Architecture
Events
Faces of Coral Gables
Golf in the Gables
There is no limit on the
number of entries per person.
• Photographs must be submitted in digital format - Only online entries will be eligible. (No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest)
• Scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable.
• All digital files must be 10 megabytes or smaller
• JPEG or JPG format
HOW TO ENTER
Each entry consists of an entry form, a single image, and there is NO ENTRY FEE, however if chosen to exhibit the exhibitor must pay $60 to the Coral Gables Museum in order have their work professionally printed and framed for the exhibit. The Museum will manage this aspect of the exhibit in order to maintain a consistent look in the gallery and ensure that all works are displayed using archival and UV-protected materials. At the end of the Capture Coral Gables Exhibit your photograph will be yours to keep.
JUDGING
The Contest consists of three (3) rounds of evaluation:
1. Jurors select works to be included in the Summer 2013 exhibition.
2. Jurors vote on 12 category winners (There are 4 categories for each
age group).
3. A public vote is conducted during the exhibition that will weigh
in on the judges final decisions for the 12 category winners as well
as result in a 13th award for "People's Choice."
Decisions of the judges will be final.
NOTIFYING WINNERS
Entrants will be contacted by June 7th, 2013 by Museum staff if their photographic entry is selected to be exhibited in the Coral Gables Museum's Capture Coral Gables 2013 summer exhibition. Please make sure the contact information provided on the entry form is correct. Prize winners will be announced at the Closing Reception and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11am. This event will be free and open to the public. Public voting will close prior to this event. All award winners will be announced in a Coral Gables Museum eblast.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Coral Gables Museum and its sponsors, partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
Coral Gables Museum assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. CGM is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to in this Contest. By entering, entrants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the Judges are final and binding with respect to all matters relating to the Contest; (c) that if selected to participate in the exhibit, s/he will print and frame his/her photograph to the specifications of the Museum and deliver the framed photograph to be displayed in the gallery; (d) that Museum may use the winning photographs and/or each winner's name, photograph, likeness, and/or voice in any publicity or advertisements relating to the Contest or future promotions without compensation or approval, and; (e) that the Museum may use, reproduce and sell images in the Museum's gift shop for the benefit of the Museum. All federal, state/provincial/territorial, and local taxes, fees and surcharges and taxes (whether foreign or domestic, and including income, sales, and import taxes) on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners. In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize is/are ineligible, cannot be traced or does/do not respond within ten (10) days to a winner notification as required by the "Contest Prizes" Rules above, or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Museum, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another entrant.
The Museum reserves the right to verify the validity and originality of any entry and/or entrant (including an entrant's identity and address) and to disqualify any entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Official Rules or who tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Museum to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Museum that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Museum reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If Museum elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, the Museum will not retain any rights in the submitted photographs, and will return the fees submitted with each entry.
